Motion Events

Motion events are generated when motion in a specified area - referred to as a motion zone - is detected by one of your cameras. Video alarms can also generate motion events (see Configure Motion Zones in the Alarm Setup section for more information).

To configure a motion zone:

  1. Navigate to the Video page and select a camera.

  2. Select MoreMotion Zones:

  3. Ensure the Highlight button is selected.

  4. Draw in the area where you wish to detect motion. When motion is detected in this area, a motion event is created.

Note: To avoid generating excessive motion events, try to select the minimum number of grid squares possible. For example, to detect motion when a door opens, only the top of the door needs to be highlighted in the region of interest (ROI) to generate an event.

  1. (Optional): Specify whether you want to receive motion alerts whenever a person or vehicle enters the motion zone, or both. For example, this might be helpful if you only want to create a motion event when a vehicle enters a drive-thru, or conversely, when a person enters the business from an outdoor parking lot. You can also set the motion detection sensitivity:

Note: Set the sensitivity to high if you want to generate motion events whenever any motion occurs in the specified area. Set the sensitivity to medium or low if you want to generate motion events less frequently, based on the level of motion in the specified area.

  2. Select Done when you are happy with the motion zone configuration.

Now you can check the Events page in Video Discovery to monitor motion events.
